Designing A Mobile Phone Website

The first thing I look for when I'm designing a mobile website is how to simplify the over all look.  Take for instants when your driving down the street and you notice a shopping mall sign, you will see the name of the mall at the top with a logo or graphic, then down the rest of the sign you will see other stores in list form.

The signs that attracts your attention are the signs that are pleasing and not cluttered.  As you drive down the highway at 45MPH you only have 3 seconds to notice a sign and the easy to read sign will attract you in to the parking lot or at least make you want to stop in at some point.

This goes for the same in a mobile phone website your customers are traveling down the Internet highway and you only have a few seconds to attract them as they search by looking for a special product or a store location.

Look at the road signs on the right these signs make great templates for a starter design.  They are very easy to read from the road traveling at 40 to 50 MPH and if you notice there is a graphic at the top and then the content of what's in the shopping plaza or building is in list form with the most important listing starting from the top.  That's my secret, I use simple pleasing forms to base my design on.
